If there isn't anything written on it, your best bet is to use a DMM set to continuity and see what connections beep when probed. Two of the connections will be the common for each internal switch. Each common will short to one connection in one position and the other connection in the other position. The same will apply for the other set (1 common plus 2 connections for each of the 2 sides for a total of 6 connections).

Lets see if i can do this:

out X X out

In X X in

out X X out

The Xs are the terminals on the rear of the switch.. The center "in" terminals are connected to one "out" terminal in the column for each switch posioion. Think of it as 2 switches side by side. The terminals never interconnect from left to right.
Here's a symbol that may make it clearer:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ImagePDT-symbol.svg
The 2 terminals on the right side are the center terminals on your switch.

ok Ill give it a try
this is two seperate switches as noted above

side one X O X
X being your load side and O is your feed in the middle
switch is thrown to one side power goes from the center pole to
the outside pole and when you flip the switch to the opposite
side power goes from the center pole to the other out side pole
now add another switch beside that one and you DPDT
you must have power to both center poles to have both sides work
the two sides are completly independant of each other
and to add a little more to the mix you can get these with a center off
position also

Kinda hard to describe in text, ain't it? It's one of those things that, once you understand it, is really simple.
Once you understand a DPDT switch, power windows are a breeze.

A normal, off the shelf DPDT switch IS off in the center position. If mounted vertically, on the vast majority of the switches I have worked with center pole is making contact with the bottom pole (same side of switch) when the switch handle is in the up position., the center pole is making contact with the top pole when the switch handle is in the down position

Thanks for the help guys. I was wiring up my nav lights and anchor light on a boat I had bought. Was redoing the lights, bilge pump, ect. and installing new switches too. The light switch was what was fretting me, but after testing the switch with a multimeter (which I went down to Lowe's and bought it made the wiring much more simplier......
Thanks for all the help. FISH ON!!
