Here's the thread I started when I ripped that crap off. And the tube comes right out after you loosen the boots on either side, but I think you have to pull the intake tube off the turbo.
I just did this.I dont think it really added any extra whistle. But the main reason I wanted it gone was cause its so frekin ugly.Like a fat ugly girl at a Hawaian tropics pagent.Any way be careful of the foil it will cut you.And its a pain to get off.I used a wire wheel at the end of it all and it shined up nice.
dry, you don't hear anything extra when the turbo gets up in the RPMs?? I didn't notice much of a difference in the lower RPMs, but when it spools way up there, I sure can hear it where I couldn't before...
I haven't done it yet but probably will because Dryfly is right, it's ugly.
I always thought my truck hardly whistled at all but last week when I was at the Ford dealer (warranty service) waiting for them to bring her around I heard this turbo whistling and I looked up and it was my truck coming up to me.
I can hear some but not much.Mind you I am hard of hearing from fireing the m-60 with no earplugs and various other exploits.
Yeah, my ears ring for the same reason (yes, it was even the '60). But mine rang from when I was a kid -- as far as I can remember, they always have. Just got worse after firing that (and the M-16, shotguns, pistols, etc.) without plugs. I learned my lesson, but I guess it's kind of late now...
Scott, I thought the same thing until my wife started driving it. Sounds totally different from outside the cab. BTW, do you have any warranty/service issues with all your mods??
I just took off the foil on mine while i'm waiting for my turbo kit to get here... kinda excited to hear what it sounds like with a WW in it and the 6637 and no foil
I'll be putting in the WW soon, too. Already have the rest, the whistle is okay. Like you, I look forward to hearing the WW. Did you notice a difference, mustang??

Nope. I was surprised that they didn't say anything but they didn't. The technician said that he liked my intake set up and that is all that was said. The service manager even went out of his way to come out to the truck to tell me that my warranty was good until the end of October and that if I needed anything to give him a call.

I definately notice it at higher rpms, not unbearable or anything but it is sure there. My Dad has been pressure washing for most of his life and the constant jet/sound of the water has rendered any high pitch inaudible to him. Everytime I tow with my truck I am always like "listen to that turbo" and he always says, "I wish I could hear it." Wear ear protection guys!!! I would be very sad if I could not hear the finer things in life...
i havn't driven the truck with the foil off.. Its been about 2 weeks since i have had it out. Until i ordered my parts and then sent my turbo shaft/wheel back to the turbo guy to be balanced. it takes a while for packages to travel from Pa to Utah. I was just bored and figured i would pull it off since i had it all taken apart anyway... Its going to be hard for me to tell if it's the WW or the Foil delete since i have only owned my truck for a few weeks before i tore down the turbo.
