460 build

i'm getting a 460 built, mostly streetable, just a little more performance than stock for offroading. bottom end stock, comp cams xtreme 4x4 cam. 0.514 lift, 210*/218* duration. weiand stealth intake. stock exhaust manifolds. edelbrock performer 600cfm carb. does this sound good or should i skip the cam and just keep the stock one with a strait up timing set? Also, what about porting the heads? thinking about removing thermactor bump but not doing much else? what do you guys think? thanks

I'd run that cam, but make sure the build included flattop pistons if you have the larger CC heads, that cam needs 9:1+ CR to build decent cylinder pressure.

Also, you need more carb, 750CFM would work way better.

Yes, grind out the exhaust humps, we have a set of D3VE and laid them aside for a set of D0VE heads (for more CR) and wnet after the D0VE heads with the die grinder, was only going to do the humps, but found plenty of of things to do...all told about 16-18 hours grinding on the heads to get things looking nice.

Hey I have a similar build planned with a CompCams cam (duration @ 0.050" lift 212/218), headman headers (89511) and probably some for of ram air intake. I have E7TE heads and I want to boost my compression to around 9.5/10:1. I'm planning to port and polish the heads but I'm lost as to a choice of piston. Flat/Domed do I need to change my connecting rods or is it just a recommendation? From what I've been reading I should be able to hit around 400HP and 450lb/ft my rpm will top at 5200 based on the cam. This is going to be mainly a street truck with weekends in the mud.

Anyone have any suggestions for selecting pistons?
Thanks

I don't know about lasthighboy but I'm thinking of tires in the 37-42 range with gearing around 5.10 or so. forgot to mention but my truck is an '88 F-250 4x4 5 speed.

lasthighboy check out the headman headers I mentioned they'll help open up you exhaust and sound great too. you might want to consider a Cat back exhaust system as well. I used an American thunder II on my last truck and am quite happy with it with the exception of having to lengthen the drivers side exhaust pipe so the tips would clear the body. I think next time i would use the 'shotgun' tips that go straight out the back.

although now that i think about it side discharge might be better for off-roading.

L&L maddog headers seem to be what alot of guys like to use cause of the quality. the gaskets i see that you get a thicker and the headers last a good time i'd say a good while as long as you keep them clean of mud once the fun time is over
