I keep finding forums that never really give a real answer other then try these 4 different cams
95 f250 5.8l Stock
Trailers and gravity wagons is the main use of the truck
Engine 1 either i drooped something into the valves when i did the intake OR there was an issue and i just noticed it.
Pulled the motor and i know the one piston is broke based on a inspection camera
Anyways the motor is out, I have to rebuild it
What can i do to help get some performance while i'm in there
I know a cam helps, but is better with headers and a head swap.
But what cam and headers should i look at just to get some performance with out breaking the bank, a new cam is 100 with lifters alone is there a better one that i could get for 250?? And if there is, is the stock motor going to even gain anything???
Basically im asking, what can i get to get something extra out of the motor since its apart - i know some people say cams do amazing on stock some say there worthless -
Cams do wonders on the early EFI motors because the stock cam is brutally small, but with your vintage motor not so much. And it's going to cost you more than $100 because your motor has a roller cam, so I'd suggest the Comp 35-512-8 or just add 1.7 roller rockers for pretty much the same results. Then GT40 heads and exhaust upgrades including headers will help, and if you're rebuilding the bottom end bump compression a little to something like 9.5:1 and do some porting on the lower intake to open up the ports to better match the heads.
