That's a good place to start but it should throw a code if I remember right.

Is It the ABS light or the Brake light? Asking because my brake light comes on about once a week. To turn it off I have to release the parking brake. ( I hit the parking brake pedal when entering by accident)

I have the same truck 2000 xlt off road and when my ABS light was on I replaced the rear ABS sensor and all my problems went away. The light reset it self. Id start there since its a quick easy fix. A lot of times on these trucks its the sensor.

ABS Sensors

Does you F150 have 4 wheel ABS or just the rear?

If just rear check then check the sensor located in the Diff.

If it has 4 wheel ABS then I would check the front sensors first. They may have rotted away as both of mine have done. Not too bad to replace, but be sure to get a longer bolt/screw to hold the sensor onto the back of the steering knuckle. OEM sensors had a thin metal flange where the replacement had a thick plastic mount and the original bolt would not even touch the knuckle. Mine were a self tapping metric bolt.

Buy from Ford or Rock Auto.

Yeah my dome light does the same thing when I open the door, I always have to close the door for it to go off.
