Angry Speedometer stopped working

2000 F-250 XLT - Driving down the highway tonight, cruise control on, all of a sudden the speedo went to zero, cruise went off and the abs light came on and the speedo went back up... soon after that, the speedo, odometer and trip stopped working and the abs light was still on... even after restartiing the engine... any ideas?

First, is there any trouble codes? (i.e is the check engine light on)

Next, all those systems are interconnected. Usually on an inoperative speedo, it can be traced to a defective speed sensor. On your truck, it will be a transfer case sensor. The transfer case speed sensor (TCSS) provides rotational speed of output shaft of the transfer case. The PCM use this information to control powertrain behavior and on some applications is used as the source of vehicle speed information.

If it is connectoed, measure resistance between TCSS signal and TCSS SIGTRN circuits at the TCSS sensor ( the two wires coming out of the sensor.)
It should be between 1,000 and 1,250 ohms.

I would bet the sensor on the rear diff. died. they are cheap to replace, when I replaced mine for the exact same problem, it was 25 bucks or so at the dealer ship, old one out, new one in, everything back to normal.

Also, if you remove the spare tire, it is a lot easier to sit underneath to do the job, make sure and get the diff clean before removing the sensor.

I have same Speedo problem

I just purchased a 1999 Super Duty Stroker Yesterday. It has the same problem. I replaced the spped sensor on the rear differential, and it did not help. Is there also one on the transfer case???? Or can my problem be in the speedometer on the dash? Thanks for any help.
