Jet chips vs the others

I know from all the great info through out this message board that there is only so much that can be "tweak" by the chips. So my main question is "are all chips created equally".

Not long ago a bought a jet chip for my 99 F250 SD 5.4L and did notice a difference but not enough to waste much more time talking about it.

What chip is the best bang for the buck. I just order a Diablo chip hoping that this will give me what I've been missing, and not lead me down the same road that jet chip did OR maybe all chips ARE created equally.

What's your opinion??

The problem is the ratio of pounds per horsepower. Both brands sold on this site will add 10% more horsepower to your engine. A 1999, 5.4 liter engine, is rated at 260hp. Therefore, the chip will add 26hp. This is regardless of what truck your engine is in. A standard cab F-150 weighs 3922 pounds. This is a ratio of 15.08 pounds per horsepower. Add a chip and you move to 13.71 pounds per horsepower. The same truck, standard cab, SuperDuty weighs 5140 pounds. This is 19.77 pounds per horsepower. Add a chip and you get to 17.87 pounds per horsepower. I am not sure how much increase you expect to feel, but, when you spread 26 more ponies out over 5140 pounds, it will be hard to really feel a striking difference. The moral of all this rambling is that the more weight that you are trying to push, the more horsepower it requires to really feel a big difference. I have dealt with several chip companies and find that most can only make so many changes to a gasoline engines operating parameters. None of these companies are willing to risk comprimising your engine. Are all chips created equal, no. Are they very similar, yes. I would not expect to feel any startling gains with anything short of a Supercharger on a 5.4 Liter engine in a 3/4 ton truck.
Thanks
Danny

Okay i have a question to add to the last responce. Ive got a 99 f-250 5.4 and you mentioned a supercharger. Well im still under warenty. Will a supercharger void it? How easy is it to install? I dont know much but i do know they will rack quite the bill. Is their by chance a low profile version for it? Thanks

The warranty issue, you would have to discuss with your dealer. I would hate to lead you wrong on something that important. As for Superchargers, yes, they are now made to fit entirely under a stock hood. Installation is about 4 hours. Most kits will gain about 40% more horsepower. So, if you drive a 5.4 with 260hp, the Supercharger will add about 104hp. Quite a nice gain. Most kits are retailed for around $3000.00 Give me a call for further details 1-877-399-6417.
Thanks
