Chip ID
Chip ID
I have a 99 F150 I bought used. The previous owner added little things here and there and I was wondering if he might have added a chip. Is there a way to get a visual ID on the chip short of pulling it out. If I new what one looked like I could tell. I can see the unit from inside the cab.
Chip ID
Easily. Look towards the top of the ecu. If there is a black plastic cover in place with the code written on it, you have no chip. If there is a small hole with a module sticking out, there is a chip. Your ecu is on the passenger side bolted against the firewall.

I have read this post and looked at my ecu a few times. try as I might I cant see a black plastic cover on the unit. The ecu is all silver with ford script on it and the only plastic I see is from the engine compartment plug side, and a small clip that may help hold it in the bracket from the cab side. The clip from the cab side is covering up a small access plate with a barcode on it. I can not see any module attached to it either so I will assume the truck is not chipped. Thanks for the info.

You are correct, if the small, black, pastic cover is in place, the truck is not chipped. After chipping, this cover stays off of the ecu. The three letters and one number on the plastic cover is your ecu code.
