No, its a waste of money. Chips are just resistors sealed in a plastic box that attempt to work by giving the computer false information. If you want to get real result, you need a tuner. SCT is a popular choice. Tuners actually change the fuel and timing maps, shift points, etc, and can be used to improve both performance and economy, depending on how an experienced tuner sets it up.
A real "chip" was used up to 93, where there was a port on the ODB-1 ECM that an actual module plugged into. Since then, a tuner is required. These new "chips" go into the same category of intake spacers and inserts, electric turbos, fuel magnets and stickerzzz.
I agree with both of these guys - better spending the money on a tuner as opposed to the "chips" that are out there. The tuner will truly do what you'd be looking for.
i asked them if they had a chip for a 97 and they said they only make chips from 98 and up. and im not set on superchips, their just one of my options. i may just get one from troyer
