Adding A/C
I have a 93 7.3l turbo diesel, what years would be good donor trucks to pull the ac from? does it have to be a diesel?
thanks guys
this truck was orginally from canada so i guess they didn't opt for a/c.

The easiest would be to get one off another 7.3L IDI diesel, that way you can take all the brackets and other misc. that are needed at the same time.
If you have some metal fab skill (or know some one who does), than you could scavange from just about any V8 ford that had A/c and a serpentine belt.
Theres alot of stuff both in the cab (air ducting and wiring) as well as under the hood that will require getting in deep.
I should warn you though, putting A/c in a truck that did not originally have it can get ugly, but it can be done.

I was told when I bought my 93' turbo new that the 93 model year was not available with A/C from Ford due to the interference with the turbo.
93' was the first year with the turbo and Ford had to delete the A/C to make the Turbo fit.
Maybe you could look at a 94' turbo or later truck to see if one of those later A/C systems can be adapted to your truck.
Also all the older systems (pre-95' were setup for R12 refrigerant which is no longer available.
I think your idea to put in an A/C system is going to cost you, probably not worth it in my mind unless you got a really nice truck you are looking to keep running for years to come.
AC = $$$$$$$$$$
Seb.....
thats interesting about the 93's. I guess it might have some interference. So no 93 turbo's had ac? see this is why i asked. learn something new everyday.
hamberger on your 93 does it have the spot for the compressor?
I need to look around for some pictures of each.
what years had the 7.3l IDI? not many right?
pics are kinda big.

We now know that the hp rating of the 7.3 IDI turbo was likely underestimated by ford to encourage people to opt for the new powerstroke instead. I can't help but wonder if the lack of an A/c option was also part of that ploy.
The turbo IDI was avalable from 1993.5-1994.5, and the N/A 7.3 goes back to 1988.
Truth be told, if I were in your shoes, I would also try to retrofit an A/c system into the truck, theres just something wrong about having all the other options and not the cold air.
I would have to buy the bracket that supports the Compressor. I do have an idler pulley in place of where the compressor usually sits so my belt is the same as a regular belt on a 7.3l with A/C in theory. Unfortunately the belt has always been a problem on this truck until I switched to a heavyduty tensioner off an F-450 which has made the belt problem liveable. I now atleast manage to get atleast 20k between belt changes.
It would not suprise me if the A/C idler pulley set-up is what is causing all my problems. I replace the idler pulley and bracket twice but the new stuff runs just as crooked as the original. In my mind there is way to much play in the idler pulley. The pulley would need a larger bearing.
If Ford sold the 93' without air so as not to shy away buyer from buying the Powerstroke in 94' I must say they sure screwed up the idler pulley design for where the A/C compressor was supposed to be.
Seb....
I put one of ther kits on my 89, and i am very happy with it
