Who was wrong ?

This morning at 9:35. while eating breakfast, I watched 9 women get out of a white van that just parked in the McDonald's parking lot next door and proceeded to walk the 200 ft to the A&W where I was sitting.

One woman was at the door of the Mc'ds motioning towards A&W.

All 9 women without asking anyone proceeded into the ladies washroom rendering it unusable to any female A&W customers for 32 minutes.

During their time in there I watched 5 come out and 4 walked directly past the counter and one went out the closest door to the washroom then walked around the outside of the building.

I was up at the counter asking for a coffee refill near the door when 3 of the last 4 came by toward the door they came in thru.
As they we're passing by me I mentioned how ashamed they should be for not asking any staff or worse...Not Thanking any of staff for the use of the facilites .....but most of all.....because NOT ONE person bought anything from a place that sells food and beverage.

All they did was use A & W washroom products and prevent actual customers from using the washroom for 1/2 hr.

Well one of the front end staff got the manager's attention and told him I was bothering his customers.

He came out and told me to shut up and if I bother anymore of his customers that he would bar me from coming there.

This is even after I told him they weren't even customer's..they were only bathroom users that were preventing My Wife a paying customer from using the faciities.

This is the same guy that reamed me and another guy out for wanting and ordering breakfast at 10:59 am with no other orders on the grill only to be told by the cook.... Breakfast is over...we cook lunch now.

I can't believe some of these business owners in this town.

I wanted to know who was wrong about what happened between the Manager & I .

He ripped into me for defending the status of the restaurant (washrooms for paying customers only) and actual customers not using the washroom because NON-Customers were in there.

I'd just go somewhere else. I miss A&W. They closed them all down around here.

I just wouldnt patronize his place of business again. I occasionally stop at a service station just to use the bathroom, but never take 1/2 hour, maybe a minute and a half, and I always buy another coffee on the way out just to ensure that another service station owner down the road will have one extra coffee bought from him.

I would write a nasty letter to the corporate offices and explain the situation..
Especially given this boneheads track record with you.

Sounds to me they need to take a few classes on the meaning of customer service.

And you are right... Those women should be ashamed for their actions.

If I have to go to the bathroom at theseplaces, I will at least buy a soda before leaving..

I believe the manager was definitely wrong.. He didn't even evaluate the situation to get the facts...

Although, We all know how difficult you can be Mil1ion .

I wrote a letter to corporate and asked for a phone call to discuss this.

Michele was mad because she had an accident..and was already out at the car to be away from any embarrassment.

WELL, to answer your question, I believe the manager was wrong. He should have been bright enough to realize they weren't even customers, nor did they have the potential to be customers since they were walking out the door. It seems like you have mentioned before that A&W was a regular stop of yours. If it were mine, after treatment like that, I wouldn't allow them the pleasure of my business and money.

If I have to use the rest room I always buy something.Since I happen to have a fondness for hot coffee it always works out.Sounds like the manager you encountered should have stayed awake in Business 101.

I am very surprised that the manager would have taken that approach with you. Did you have an opportunity to explain the the moron manager your side of the story? I am pretty sure that when he mentioned not letting you return to the store, I would have saved him the hastle, and let him know that I would never be returning to that store.
Sounds like the manager needs a little help with his people skills.

While I am on your side with the bathroom deal, I think you are on your own for the breakfast thing. (LOL) The early bird gets the worm, and he who gets to the golden arches before 10:30 a.m. gets breakfast.

Definitely follow up with corporate. The manager was absolutely in the wrong. See if you can get the head office to transfer him to the downtown east side of Vancouver. He'll have in and outs like nobody's business.

Describe "ream out".......My tolerance for being "reamed out" by anyone is very low....

I guess that I would say you were wrong AND you were right.....Unless it just personally affected you (i.e......Your wife had an encounter with them...or had other issues and the bathroom use by the "gang of nine" seriously affected you or your wife's well-being)...I'd say bring the behavior to the attention of the restaurant staff and let THEM handle it (i.e......Mr. Manager sir.....This vanload of floozies have been using the restroom for 20 or 30 min....my wife has to go real bad, and the floozies haven't even bought anything....they just want a free washroom!!!).......Put it on THEM.....

I agree that Dennis is right. That said, put yourself in the manager's position concerning non-paying restroom users. If the manager makes a scene, then he's got 9 irate women going off on him, and possible causes of discrimination. I managed a retail establishment and the key was to always keep things flowing. If somebody's car died in the parking lot due to a bad battery, I'd go out and jump-start them and send them on their way. Because I was a nice guy?--No, cause I wanted that car off the lot so other customers would have a place to park. So yes, it's very rude to use a retailer's facilities and not reciprocate in some way, but that seems to be the way the world is now. My home town is 100 miles away, and there's a big gas station right off the interstate at 50 miles. I always stop there if I'm headed that way (50 miles is about my limit if I'm coffeed-up), and most of the time I buy gas or something, but sometimes I don't. My daughter lives 260 miles away, and I can tell you where every rest-stop on the interstate is coming and going. When I go to visit, I'm gassed up before I leave, and take my own thermos of coffee, and consider it time lost if I have to get off the interstate for anything.
