had a '69 Ford Thunderbird with 429 ci. CJ 390 hp engine...starter would get too hot in summer from exhaust manifold heat and seize.
would have to park 4>8 hrs until cool enough to spin and start. heat blanket solved problem
I've still got one of these engines. Except mine has a stock Delco starter on it from the factory. Yea, the one where the GM-type solenoid is on the starter. I have no idea why Ford would buy that from GM during that era when the Ford-designed starter was better at hot-start conditions. (Okay, I do know why, but let's not detract from my rant!!)
I guess the weirdest part of it is taking off the GM starter and thinking "Wait a minute....I thought I was working on a Ford".
