I have an '05 PSD and am considering some mods for power, fuel efficiency, etc. However, I do NOT want to void the 100k PSD warranty. Does anyone know which mods can be done without affecting the warranty? Exhaust, etc.? If exhaust systems do not affect the warranty, which systems do you all recommend? We use the X to haul the family on road trips, our 19' boat, and our 30' travel trailer.
If you're concerned about voided warranty, leave it alone. Even if your dealer is 'mod friendly', another dealer can flag your VIN if you ever need service elsewhere.
Don't touch it at all, unless you have 5-10k in the bank for repairs.............I have talked to 2 dealers in AZ that will void the warranty for the turbo if you simply change the muffler. I don't agree, just sharing the facts. Some dealers look for any loophole to get out of a warranty claim and some just fix the 6.0's and don't say a thing?? I would not flash your PCM because that is easier to trace than say a fuel box that intercepts the pcm signals and can be easily removed. You play just be ready to pay!
it 100% depends on the dealer. like the other guys said, some dealers will void for the smallest reason. others are mod friendly. my brother has an intake exhaust and the Bully Dog and the dealer didn't care and replaced his turbo under warr with no questions asked. if you do mod, become close friends with the tech and tip him well and request that only he work on your truck. its not up to the guy on the phone you talk to(service advisor) it is a total shot in the dark some get lucky and some don't.
Thanks for the insight everyone. Looks like I'll be trying to get the ear of the techs at my local dealer.
XHunter - Have you had to address any warranty issues after your mods? If so, what was the dealer's response?
Thanks again!!
knock on wood, 33k trouble free miles. the only tiny thing is with the Bully Dog on long trips (150+ miles, continuous driving) I get code P0401 which is EGR insuficient flow, I clear it and in comes back after a few hundred miles. but I can drive around town for 1500 miles and it never comes on. I think I just need to clean the EGR. I am extremely happy with the mods I've done: several mpg increase city and hwy and the truck is fast as sh** too fast almost.
where are you located? I've never take my truck to my dealer here but they say they are mod friendly (they are a Diablo Sport dealer)
My brother lives in Ft. Walton Beach FL, he has the best dealer (for service) in the world...his tech is his friends brother-in-law, so he gets cart blanche there. and we have property in NC--Canton exit 31 off of I40, 20 miles west of Ashville...they don't care what you do to your truck, that's where they replaced the turbo under warr and all the mods were left in/on the truck.

I thought they have to prove the muffler screwed up the turbo under the Magnusson Moss Act?
Why? Just get a different PCM for Jody to flash and swap it out before going to the dealership.
Agree with posts here that the mod has to be the cause of the problem in order to void the warranty. Chips and programmers will be a definite flag, as would any mod that substantially increased HP, torque, EGTs. It seems that with any computer or electrical issue the default will be that your mod is the problem, when it may be the ECM. I stopped by a dealer in Delaware that had modified and F-250 with suspension lift and exhaust. No chips or programmers. Asked them if the mods would affect warranty, especially since they did them. Of course the answer was "no". Some dealers are more friendly. You may also want to seek guidance from the mod manufacturer. Talk with them before you install and ask how the product may affect warranty. When I thought about a programmer, I called a particular company and asked. They hedged in on warranty effect. If they will not stand behind their product to the dealer, I don't want it on my truck.
A guy I used to go to school with has a 05 F350 dually with a blown motor at 30k miles. The truck was used to haul three vehicles on lease returns and was equipped with the full "waste of money" Banks kit. The truck was towed to a Ford dealership were while trying to listen to the motor run it blew up. A year after the fact Ford has now aquired the vehicle to find out IF the chip and aftermarket equipment caused the failure of the motor. My friend is in the middle of a law suit over the truck with Ford and now they decided they better take a look at the truck.
One problem is the truck saw three different workers in 30k miles so you never know how many of them towed on max hp setting.
What I would do is have a 2nd PCM reflashed and do what you want. Problems? Take the "new" pcm out and put the "old" one back.
Do the PCMs on these trucks store mileage? I know on some GMs they store the mileage and if it ever gets pulled for some reason and doesnt match you will have a LOT of splainin to do!
Anything other then the dash hold mileage history, some under dash computer or something? Too many computers on these things lol
