Guys do Ignition boxes really make a big difference on our 92-96 F-150 ignition system? Kinda interested in a 6AL for my 302HO motor, it burns kinda rich and thought maybe the MSD unit would burn that extra fuel being used through the engine?
I had luck just using MSD Coil & cap (or 94-94 stang) and Fordracing 9mm wires really helped my truck . I didn't have money for the 6A-al I'd like to see if they help. Good luck
Yah I just wanted to get an opinion before I buy a brand new 6AL... ;-) I am running some iron GT40 heads off of a 94 Cobra and basically the rest of the motor is from a 97 explorer engine and just was curious if I would see any improvement in the engine with the MSD box that's all!
There is no chance that performance/economy will suffer because of the MSD and odds are in your favor that the MSD will make things run better and smoother...especially if you are running rich. But, why not just address the rich condition or address the rich condition AND install the MSD?
If you're gonna go for it, stick with the 6A. The 6AL is the same unit with a rev-limiter for high revving engines. Not really neccesary for trucks, unless you do a lot of heavy footed driving. Put the extra 20 or 30 bucks toward other ignition parts!

the ignition boxes do a really good job at burning all the gas in the combustion chamber. At higher rpms the ignition boxes make a continuous spark burning all the gas. Its definately a good plus to your system.
The limiter feature could always just be there for when your motor suffers a throttle run away situation....
I was thinking of ignition upgrades for my 300-6... is the msd-6 / 6AL gonna work fine on it? I guess it don't matter how many cylinders???

# 8227 is the one I put on my 5.0 Chris........I found it at PepBoys for $44....I think 5.8 is the same.....Seems to work well......
I haven't had it on long yet so I can't speak to any mpg gains....... smoother idle though.
Aftermarket ignition components wont make that much of a difference unless the parts you are replacing are bad to begin with. If it's running rich, then there is a problem.

Thanks. Thats the one I was looking at maybe getting.
