MSD Ignition on 300-6

I have been in contact with MSD Tech people about MSD ignition components on 90 300 ci 6 cyl. They are recommending PN6420,MSD6A-l w/rev limiter (or) PN 6200, MSD 6A PN 8207, Blaster SS Coil and PN 8680, Adjustable Timing Control. The rig has Cliffird Headers and KN Filter charger. They say I will experience improvement in fuel use and performance. Anyone out there have any experience with the kind of a set up they are proposing???

When I put my new 351W in my '82, I put in an MSD6A with the blaster coil. I have not put in the adjustable timing control, but will do that in the near future. My engine is real sensitive to temp, so I have been adjusting timing to help compensate when the temps are up around 100 outside. The MSD will give you fast, hot starts. At idle the MSD will discharge up to 6 sparks on each plug during the compression cycle and at higher rpms gives you spark at each compression cycle compared to every 2nd or 3rd time on a standard ignition. This gives you added HP, quicker starts, and a cleaner burning engine. MSD is doing something right; nearly every serious circle track race car runs some type of MSD ignition system that I have seen, in fact, at the NASCAR cafe, they have a Gordon race car from a couple of years back that has the 6A system in it (most of them actually run dual ignition systems in case one fails during a race).

I have an MSD setup on my Mustang with 351C. I have a 6A box, billet distributor, Blaster 3 coil. I would say there may be a slight improvement, but I doubt that you will see anything drastic. I did see an improvment from getting the timing curved correctly, though. That is easy to do with the MSD distributor.

I plan on putting a 6A with Blaster 3 coil on my 300 in the future.

I have a '93 i6. I recently added an msd 6AL with a blaster 2 coil, and some 8mm wires. Definite improvement, esp at very low engine speeds. Don't have to give it nearly as much gas to get it rolling, and it has noticeably more power under heavy throttle. It gives an improvement at factory spark plug gap (.044") but I like it best around .050". At .060" it starts to miss when the fuel/air ratio is higher (accellerating). Hope this helps. Also, it's hard to find a place to mount it, in spite of all the room under the hood - I bolted mine to the top of my air cleaner box and the hood still shuts fine.
