question about my doors. They have to be lifted a little then closed. DO I just loosen the bolts and try to lift the door and tighten them down again.
well when the door is closed (after oyou pick it pu do the bodylines match up? if the body lines are higher on the door then you could lower the striker a little but if once latched the body lines are good then you will have to luusen the bolts pick the door up a litte tighten and try it. (alot easier with help!)
Take a three foot or so 2' x 4' put one end on the ground, another on the door sill. Place the 2x4 3/4's of a way back from the hinge post. Move the door to where it contacts the 2x4 then gently push the door up the piece of wood. Don't go too far, just a couple of inches should do the trick. Once the door has repositioned itself tighten up the hinges. Do NOT loosen the hinges beforehand. This is an old used car dealers trick to realign sagging doors, and it works.
Hell the new car dealers do it also. It is fun to watch the body man come out for an "adjustment" with his wedges and levers etc then try to hide them from me. I just tell them "go ahead, I know how it is done". Seems to bring a big smile to their face!
If there's enough slop in the hinges to lift the doors then it sounds like the hinge pin bushings are shot. (If it uses bushings- I've never even looked at mine).
No point in adjusting anything if that's the case.
an old time bumper jack works allso put a rag over the deal thats spose to go in to the bumper to keep from scratchin paint and from the back corner of the door jack'er up a lil and retighten hinges
Yeah, it sounds like the hinge bushings are bad. Until you get those fixed, you'll probably have the same old problem over and over. Easy to replace those bushings.
