I'm thinking about lifting my 2001 explorer sport (2door), but, I'd like to see someone elses that have lifted theirs. Preferably 99 or newer so I can see one closer to my body style, but hey, I'll take any. 4doors, 2doors, or sporttracks, I love them all!!!
It'd be awesome to see. I see a few in person locally, but they're first generation models. Nothing of the newer variety...even ones like mine in the late 90's. These things can be awesome rigs when done right.
I'm thinking like a 4" lift with 33" tires, I dont think anyone makes cut out flares for my year, and if they did, I doubt I'd have any turn radius. lol but I think the 4" with 33's would be sweet. I did find these pics, They look pretty cool.
I've also thought about lowering it a few inches, swaping out the motor, tranny, and transfer case to hold up to a larger motor, and be full time all wheel drive. I'm thinking my 289 hi-po from my t-bird would be a fun place to start, but, I hate to give up my daily driver to do so. lol besides that, its a sacrilige to lower a 4x4 here in apalacia! lol
I hear ya there - mine is my ONLY ride right now so to take it out of service to lift it is hard. And yeah, in these mountains, lowering a 4x4 is a crime...lol.
well, in theory, I'd be turning a 4x4 into an all wheel drive street machine basicaly. 4 tires means more traction, means faster launch times. lol But, I think I like my 4x4's lifted better.
Lifted is exactly how I like mine. I haven't seen many "built" Explorers of my vintage, so maybe if I get the budgetary crisis to pass I might take a stab at it. But that's not for now.
I just lifted mine out of necessity, broken shackles...15 bucks for the lift shackles and a free torsion bar twist and ya...2 inches It rides great, handles a little better and makes me want to put 31's on it even more...but seeing the 4 inch makes me want more lift.
