po 761 problem
I have a 96 4.0 excab with 274.000 miles never had a problem until now.
the only things i have done are change oil, and filters gas, air and last fall took the truck to a ford dealer to change trans filter and fluid. a month ago the o/d lite came on driving on the tollway and rpm were way high and would not shift into high gear it's an automatic so a friend looked at the codes and found the
po 761 code and a p2511 what i would like to know is can i change the solenoid
my self in my garage or do i have to go to the shop and get ur done and if i can do it myself what am i looking at doing whats the best way to do it because
the book i have has nothing at all about what needs to be done.
any-and all help would be apriciated

How much longer do you expect that thing to last after you change the solenoid?
How do you put 2000 miles a week on one vehicle?
If that is the true mileage, you might be looking at a re-build, other wise, I think you might be doing some nickle and dime fixes when it really is due for a complete overhaul.

Not no 2000 a week but 105 a day to work and back 6 days a week.
so all that driving ads up! so you think i should rebuild the trans or would it be cheaper to buy a rebuilt trans? money is real tight so i have to go the cheapest
way i can any help on this subject will be appreciated.

I am only lloking at the possibility of that thing lasting much longer than it has.
Either have it re-built, or use it as a core for a re-built one.
I would not have too much faith in an auto that had that many miles. I have only seen about half a dozen that made it to the 300K mark.
