My brother has a 08 250 with a dpf delete kit and i think a spartan tuner. Anyways yesterday we drove about 250 miles no issue. Stopped to get fuel, which it got pretty low, but after fueling it started up for about 10 seconds and died. Then wouldnt start back. Didnt have any check engine lights or throw any trouble codes. We tried different tunes no change. But what is the weird thing if you removed the battery cables for 5 min then hooked back up it would do a long crank then start for 5-10 seconds and die and would start back. We changed fuel filters with no luck. I think its the lift pump either dead or not getting power due to shrader valve being dry on the fuel cooler. We checked all fuses and the pump reset switch with no luck. Any thoughts?? or which wire to probe on the lift pump to ensure getting power to it?
sounds more to me like it is full of air. turn the key to the on position and wait. You should hear the low pressure pump. Wait till it stops then turn the key off and then back to just the on position.
Repeat at least 6 times then attempt the re-start.
Just wanted to give an update. Ford ended up flashing the PCM and replaced the faulty inerta cut off switch for the fuel pump. Said it was the first one they have had to replace at that dealrship. Running perfect now. Just makes me still wonder why the switch died when it did. Electronics got to love it and hate it at the same time.
