Your tranny will operate OK with either axle ratio IMO. The 373 gears will be a little easier on the tranny, especially if you are pulling big loads. The 308 will get better milage at e-way speeds but make s the truck a dog. You might be able to get an entire axle from a junk yard for the cost of just changing gear ratios. If you buy a new ring & pinion + installation kit you are looking at 300-500$ new + labor.
