WOW...what a loaded (2) questions.....you're gonna get however many brands of oil/grease there is out there. The best kind is the kind YOU like and change at the proper intervals!! 'Nuff said!

I don't really use semi synth and don't have much brand loyalty either -- I usually pick up quality oils on closeout sales like regular Havoline for $1.29 at GIJoe's, or Havoline synthetic @ $3/quart in BigLots. The last one is still available, and they also have blend and dino, but they are much less of a deal at $2.30 and $1.80, respectively. If all else fail, WalMart usually has the best non-sale prices on motor oils.

For grease, the last tube I bought was a Mobil 1 synthetic grease.

If you want to run Semi-Synthetic oil its hard to beat motorcraft.

For grease I use Evinrude Marine grease. The stuff is completly waterproof and will not wash off or mix with water.

I use Valvoline semi-synthetic grease because it is relatively cheap, available almost everywhere and has moly, so it meets the Ford spec. It is as "universal" as automotive greases get.

The best deal out there today on motor oil is Pennzoil Platinum full-syn for 99 cents, after rebate, with a Kragen coupon. Without coupons or rebates, Havoline is $1.99 at Autozone.

Unless you are maintaining a large fleet and can justify shipping costs on bulk orders, why go with specialty products like Amsoil, LE, Shaeffer's or Swepco in an age where ordinary brands sold in auto parts and department stores are so good? Very few vehicles require hard-to-find specialty lubricants. Late VW TDI's come to mind, needing dealer-only or mail-order oils.

If your not brand loyal, then use whatever brand says it meets or exceeds the respective manufacturers specifications for the lubricant you need.

As for my personal choices over the past half century, it's been mostly Texaco products.

WallyWorld does offer up some good prices on the 5qt jugs of motor oil, if you don't have one of the stores mentioned above, that have specials.

As for greases, there is a difference in the GM & Ford specifications, but most mfgrs of grease offer up both recipes & I'd be carful about mixing different types of grease, as their add packs may not mix well, so you'd be safer using the specified formula, or cleaning/flushing the old grease out, before changing to another type.

Just some more things to ponder.
