I was wondering what kind of grease to you use on the front ball joints and all zert fittings on my truck. How often do you grease each thing, and how much do you put in it???
I have been using a synthetic grease that is rated to -65. Cant remember the name but got it a NAPA. Main reason is that is the temps that I see. As for when, I usually check/fill them at each oil change since I am under there. I put just enough cranks to make the rubber firm. First time I did it I was surprised at how few fittings my truck has.
I only have 4 zerx fittings on my truck and it is all in the steering linkage. I don't think there are zerx fittings on the ball joints. I checked mine and don't even see where you would put a zerx fitting. You just have to wait for them to wear out and then replace the ball joints with ones with zerx fittings.
Hey SBV45. Did you grease anything in your wheel bearings at 30,000? I read something in the manual for my FX4, can't remember what it said, but I was sure it was in the front wheel bearings, and at 30,000.

However, now that you mention it, It took forever for it to unlock the front hubs. I may pull them apart and put in manual hubs.
Anybody know of a good manual hub kit to replace the auto hubs?
Yep. Had the same problem trying to put my auto hubs into manual mode during hunting season. Could barely turn the **** by hand, but I was a bit apprehensive about taking that stuff apart. No problem if it was regular 2wd, but never pulled apart 4wd hub before. Guess there's a first time for everything. At least I have my trusty Accord if I make a mess of it.
Man I would love to get me some Warn Hubs. Hey I found that thing in my manual about greasing the hubs. It was in the back of the owner's manual under service schedules for "severe" use. It said to grease the hub needle bearings on 4x4 trucks every 15,000 miles. Now I wonder what I gotta do for that?

Send me a PM or email with your email address and I will send you a Word or PDF file with the procedures out of the service manual for removing hubs on 4x4. If you have automatice hubs there is a kit for converting auto hubs to manual and putting in Warn or MileMarker.
