add grease fitting to upper control arm

After having to replace my upper control arm, because the ball joint isn't servicable. I though I'd fool around with adding a grease fitting. I wonder if this would extend ball joint life.

I don't think it sticks through far enough to damage the ball joint. the truck has about 60,000 miles. The grease inside was very dirty and getting hard.

Can you show the steps to do this? I don't understand how you disassembled the ball joint. Do you take it apart from the bottom, or does the top come off?

The ball joint can be replaced without changing the whole arm. Buy the joints from MOOG and press them in yourself. MUCH better quality joint. They don't call them "Problem Solvers" for nothing. None the less good idea...

The arm in the picture is the old one. I had to cut the heck out of it to remove the ball joint. You wouldn't need to do that to install the fitting. Just load up the appropriate drill bit with grease to catch the chips, drill and tap it. The reason I cut this one up was so I could see how far the fitting protruded through. You need to use, a fitting with a very short threaded area. About 3 threads. The lower ball joint is serviceable. Unless I'm missing something, the upper is not. ( I'll go to the moog site now to see)Once you have to replace it. It's too late. I was hoping to prolong the original.
