Quick question for you guys. Last year I installed Moog upper and lower ball joints. While changing the oil last week, I wanted to grease all the chassis fittings. When I installed the moog joints, it said to remove the 90* grease fitting on the upper to prevent clearance issues. How in the heck are you guys getting that fitting in place to grease the joints? Maybe my brain was not functioning because it was so cold outside last week. I know I greased them when I installed, but there is not enough clearance to get the 90* fitting in.
If you have a 2wd, you can replaced the zerks with 45* degree fittings on the upper ball joints, and point them towards the front of the truck.
Plenty of room to get to em with a standard grease gun.
Not sure about the 4x4
Using 90's on my 00 - quick tip: install them with the zerk facing to the rear but pointed slightly towards the frame. Takes a few times to get them to tighten up that way but its worth it. This helps keep them from clogging which can be a pain as there isn't much room to use a zerk cleaning tool in there.
I just picked up a 90 deg grease gun adapter. It was about six bucks at tractor supply. It will slide sideways over the standard grease fitting. Thats how i grease my front upper ball joints on my 04 f250 4X4
maybe I was missing something because it was so cold outside. The height of the 90* fitting was greater then the clearance I had. I tried turning the wheels both ways and jacking the truck up by the axle and nothing helped. The fittings I have are the ones that came with the moog ball joints I put on the truck. The moogs also came with a plug that is in now in place of the 90* fitting. I wish I could remember how I greased them when I originally installed them. FYI the truck is 4x4.
I jack the truck up and remove the wheel, laying on my back and having the u joint in the correct place I can install the 90 degree grease fitting in the upper ball joint with my two fingers. I tried a couple of times without removing the wheel but it was a no go. I noticed that the trucks at work leave the grease fittings installed however I would not try it because if it the u joint snaps it off it will take way longer than install/removing them during oil changes to replace the ball joint. Hope this helps.
