Ball Joint Grease Fitting

I know this has been discussed before, but I wanted to bring it up again. 2000 F-250 Super Duty upper ball joint grease fitting. I think there have been several posts on how to get grease fittings permanently installed at the upper ball joints, but I would like to hear them again so that I can install grease fittings. Any help appreciated.

replacement joints can be gotten with fittings.that might be the easyest way out esp. if you have lots of miles on the truck.
if there was a post on how to drill and tap that hard steel i sure would also like to see it.

You can get self-tapping zerk fittings. Since it's hardened, you'd probably need a cobalt drill bit. I'd take it real easy on the drill speed, too.

I've never done it, though. I'd be worried that I'd introduce metal chips in there or nick the ball with the bit, so I bide my time until it wears out and replace it with one that had a fitting.

I just installed new Moog ball joints, and they come with tapped holes for grease fittings. The lower ball joint comes with a plug screwed into it, and also comes with an uninstalled 45 degree grease fitting. The problem is that when the ujoint rotates it will hit the 45 degree grease fitting so I just lubed the new ball joint, and reinstalled the plug which clears the rotating ujoint. Is there a way to PERMANENTLY install a grease fitting that will not be knocked off by the rotating ujoint?

Only way to do a grease fitting is to remove the plug and insert the zirk, grease and replace the plug. I dont think it can be done without pulling it all apart though. You would have to have a lot o patience.

There are flush mount fittings out there, but they are really hard to come by and you need a grease needle to grease 'em. They're basically the same fitting as some u-joints have mounted on the cup, but a different size than the u-joint fittings.

Thanks for the input Alstaregixxer. I have the grease needle.
