I am building a 390 for my f100 and the wrecker has a plain cast4 barrel intake from 73 truck or an S code intake which should I go for? I want bottom end tourqe
Grab the S code and smile. Later pick up a used Performer or a standard 4 barrel from any 390. The S code will more than pay for the Performer.
Performer with small runners will help maintain your low end torque.
But personally I'd run the S over any stock truck 4bbl intake. It flows better than the truck manifold and flows better than a Performer (but not a Performer RPM). The S is a nice solid intake that is good off idle to about 6k that won't hurt your bottom end enough to notice, but will help your top end out just enough to notice.
I got $120 for an extra S code that was sand blasted & painted up real nice.
Sold it on e-bay a year or so ago...shipping was another $60, they paid that too.
I had about $10 into it. Worked out pretty good.
