You have to completely disassemble the distributor to change the PIP. This includes removing the distributor drive gear and it's associated roll pin. It's a pain, but doable.
Yes you can but most distributors unless they are new have a bad PIP sensors in them. Some on here have replaced the rebuilt distributors four times before they get one with a good PIP sensor.
With all the headaches the e150 is giving me ,might just be worth picking up a Distributor and installing it.
On Rock auto they have a "Spectra Premium / Cooling Depot FD16 Distributor " for approx $70.
As i mentioned before my son in law is a mechanic so he can help install it.
