With the weights and lumber configuration you gave on the first post is plenty sound for what you have in mind! Make sur you use a Simpson tie down ( like a 4x4 on the joist supports embedded into the concrete) You can find them at home depot!!...........Injoy Drink one for me!!! ( Union Carpenter)....

Why not just pour a slab??

Not criticizing...just curious?

I am also building a 12x14 deck off the house and laying a new cobble stone patio (17x25). The patio would come up to the edge of the hot tub. With wood it would look nicer then concrete, with it butting up to the new patio.

I just talked to a friend and he said that I should use 2x8's instead of the 2x6's for the beams and joists. He said that todays lumber has big knots which can compromise load capacity of the member. And that 2x8's are better other all. I Agree with you nubeee1 and think that 2x6's will be plenty. As the joists will be 12 oc and only be a max of 2.5 feet apart form the beams.

You can stick with the 2x6 @ 12"O.C. Or go the extra cost with 2x8 @ 16"O.C.

Check the mil of you lumber, #2 grade 2x6 has fewer knots, Then say a # 3 grade. A little more money but it buys you peace of mind. Try to buy green treated or weather proof it your self!! ( that's for the joists)

From: Where's my map???
2x6 12" OC is more than enough. I did not read the length of the span of the 2x6's
tho.

Thanks for the help, I think I will go with the 2x8's on 16 o.c. It will also be pressured treated lumber.

Your framing is plenty strong enough with the 2x6s. I built a lot of decks for hot tubs when I was living in Shreveport. I had a friend with a hot tub & pool company.. I did lots of small decks like yours. I framed them with treated lumber & used treated pine, cedar, & redwood to cover them. I built some very elaborate indoor decks in homes & pool houses. Aspen is another good wood to use around a hot tub. I wish I knew where the pics of my decks are. I'd post up a few.
