I am building an deck/platform for a hot tub that will weight about 6000 pounds with water and people. The deck will be 8'x8' feet with the joists and decking of 2x6's, this will all be pressure treated lumber. The joists will be spaced 12" O.C. My beams will be doubled 2x6's. The top of the deck will sitting about 12.5 inches off the ground if that matters. This will all be sitting on 9 concrete footings 42" deep spaced evenly. The beams will be about 2.5 feet apart from each other. Will this be beefy enough to support the weight of 6000 pounds?
I did my math and get 150 Psf at 2.5 feet spacing between beams witch is a total load for the 8'x8' deck of a little over 9000 pounds. If I did this right, I will be alight.
Total weight with everything (hot tub, water, people, and drinks) will be 6000 pounds or less, this is what the deck will have to support. I am trying to figure out if I did my math right and if the spacing between beams will be good to hold this wieght load.
Thanks for the link, No it will not be attached to the house it will be a platform by its self. Looks like just what I want to do, Just mine will be a liitle stronger. So I think I will be ok with the spacing comparing to the one in the link.

I read the 6000 lbs part.
I want to know how you got to that figure.

Maybe you're off some?
How many people are in your 6000 lb equation ?
Me ! I over spec everything I build.
Like My Own Deck.
5 people would be about it at once, at 150-180 each = 750-900
But the hot tub can hold a max of 7 + more for them = 350
Hot tub it self = 750
450 gallons of water at about 8 pounds per gallon =3600
