Sorry I'm getting in on this thread late, but The EL will NEVER serve as a suitable replacement for those using the Ex up to it's ability to tow. The EL is a 1/2 ton, with a 5.4L, and you can't even get a 4.1 "axle" from the factory! Sadly when my Ex has served its useful life, I am currently left with no choice in an suv other than the 2500 Burb with 6L and 4.1 axle. If Chevy puts a diesel in it, even better! I bleed Ford blue, but specs are specs, and Ford does not have a competitive product to the 3/4 ton Burb.

The excursion is the best rig for people who need to carry lots of people and tow an ungodly ammount of wait. The Excursion is the perfect rig for my family.

weight=not wait...

hybrid, i just dont think that it would be worth the money to fully "restore" an X. yeah, maybe paintjob and some seat covers. the major components would cost way to much to do. ie; suspension, bushings, drivetrain and the like. but those would be done on an as they go bad basis. plus there aren't that many new parts for it.i would never do it especially back to stock.

The new SUV's are way to soccer mom like. An SUV should be a truck and look like a truck. Not be a large Minivan. I would like to grab another x and store it. That way I will have another one when this one dies, which I am planning on not happening unitl 400+K miles. Should get me another 12 years or so ( fingers crossed ). As for the X ever returning I do not think so. With all thenew emmission requirments that are to come up over the next decade you will be lucky if you can even buy a diesel vehicle unless it is commercially registered.

Racer x quote "hybrid, i just dont think that it would be worth the money to fully "restore" an X." Unless it had sentimental value to you.

Now that the excursion is discountinued, do you guys think this forum will ever shut down?

Nah, it'll be here forever . The older the X's get, the more things will break, so the more we will have to talk about!

I agree with all of your sentiments. Always wanted an X, but sold out and bought a Tahoe when the 2d kid came along. Was never happy with it (a realy pain when traveling, i.e. no frickin cargo space, baby stroller eats that up!)

So i searched for 6 months and finally landed my BLK 04 EB, love it! I've been criticized by some who say I don't need that much vehicle. Whatever! i figured if I waited much longer I'd never find one I wanted!

Mines still a baby w/ 40K miles and I plan on keeping it for at least 10 years, heck as long as she's running.

You're right though, with all these enviro wackers gaining attention (hopefully not gaining power [McCain '08!!], gas prices rising, etc, I doubt we'll ever see this or something similar returned to production.

Love this forum too! you guys are great and have answered a lot of my questions! May the X and the X forum live forever!

Ive though about this alittle but anyways, how come none of the people in the excursion ever meet like that powerstroke club? Is it because this isnt a "Club"?

I've also been thinking about what to do when my X dies - it just turned 127k this past weekend. I came to the conclusion that I just need to keep up with the maintenence and hope no one wrecks it... but if they do , I use the "Not in Production Anymore" complaint to their ins co and really ream them ... just kidding .

I had also considered searching for a wercked one and buying the engine, tranny and front/read (whatever I could salvage) and store it away some where and rebuild the drivetrain - then swap it out and rebuild the current one - and back and forth... but it was just a thought.

I firmly believe that something better will surface in about 2-3 years. So I'm not gettting too attached to my truck. It's nice an' all but it is, afterall, just a truck.
