Wow this satellite internet stuff is pricey. The local cable co there says they don't service my address but i'm the first property off the highway and they do service folks on the highway. Most likley i'll have to use the sat but i'm planning to have the cable guy come and do a site survey to see if they will run a line. Personally i don't see why not since i have a light on the back of the property and my power runs to it before it goes underground to the house.

Check for DSL availability. I don't have cable out where I'm at and satellite is too expensive. Somehow they were able to backhaul a DSL pipe over from the CO. Check with your LEC, never know.

I checked on DSL when i called to have the phone service set up and they don't have that in my area. They told me i'm too far from the server hub.

i think you have wireless and satelitte security mixed up.

the satelitte setup is connected to your computer by the modem through cables (no outside signal is given off)

the wireless router you connect to use a laptop or another pc in your home without useing cables.this wireless router does give off a signal outside your house but when you activate the wireless router their is password you set up. without this password people in the neighborhood can find your wireless signal but can not access your network.

are wireless card in our laptop can detect 3 other wireless networks on my street but without their password they are no accessable.

I live in a very remote part of Alaska. But then what part of Alaska isn't? We have Starband. Have had it about 7 years. Started out paying 70 per month and have leveled of at 49.95. The only thing that slows it is heavy snow or rain with 5 miles of clouds. This summer we will upgrade to the new Starband Nova system that will more than double our speed. Check with amiller93 as he is a Starband tech. And can give ya more info. We have HD Directv and It works all the time. No matter what the weather is doing. Got 3 dishes and a 70 foot radio tower around and on the house. People say it looks like an FBI headquarters. HAAAA

Yeah, I have the same problem ... too far away ... by two hundred feet!

... had to go with the local cable monopoly for Internet service even though I have satellite teevee ... now the monopoly bothers me every few days to see if I am interested in cable tv. The answer will always be NO, but they still bother me at all hours. If I ask them not to bother me, they ask me if I want them to shut off my Net access ... talk about being held hostage ...

Just tell them that yer on the Federal No Call List for telemarketers and that if ya turn them in they will get a fine. Works for me.

First, ask to speak to their supervisor, or manager. . . IMMEDIATELY.
(Hint: Always get the caller's name and title when the phone call is first started!)
If they refuse (to allow you to speak to their superior[s]). . . get their name and position with the company. Then file a formal complaint with the company.
Let them know that IF the harassing phone calls and threats don't stop (which, is exactly what they are doing!) that you will dig up Johnny Cochran, and sue them until the cable company's name is "renegade734 Cable Co."

Thanks for reading.
