Dial up sucks :'(
After having a cable modem for so long now I think dial up sucks.
Yes I'm whining. I'm on dialup right now cause the mediacom's server is down or something. It must have takin me 20 seconds to download just this page. That sucks compared to click and its there.
Sorry to all here that only have dial up for an internet connection.
I didn't mean to **** anyone off. I just had to blow a little steam.
No not really. I'm just whining.
My neighbor was in Hong Kong for two weeks on business, then another two weeks getting the tree trimmed. IT SUCKED! I had to use a dial up for four weeks. You thought I was pissed, you should have heard my wife complaining.
I'm back on with highspeed again. I spent about 20 minutes on hold waiting to hear a live voice. And what I learned was the mediacom was doing some small changes to their system. They now want the customers to have their computers registered on their system. We have a total of 4 in the house 2 notebooks 2 desktops. We are only paying for 2 connections. So now when I want to turn a third on and 2 are running I have to pick one of them to kick offline. Just a little bit of a noosense. I can live with that. most of the time we only have two running anyways.
But the worst part is they didn't send out any letters stating what they were doing and how to set up the computers to work on their new system.
I'm just happy that I'm back on. But a nice letter to the city is not out of the question describing their failer to notify the customers properly.

I have a cable modem service from AT&T. They wanted to have all of my computers registered also (3 of them). I went out and got a Router/firewall from linksys and use the NAT feature, so I can have up to, roughly, 250 systems using this one address. Have had it for about 2 years and have no problems (and no extra fees).
Basically, I now have a home network.

Had the same problem. I live in the heart of the Silicon Valley, but my neighborhood was the hood time forgot. Pac Bell trenched across our back yard and laid a fiber backbone in, but never finished setup the network. AT&T cable modem was not available in our area. DSL, what that? Short 1600 yards to the nearest hub. My neighbor finally got feed up and had a T1 line installed and started his own ISP service. I tap into in T1 via a wireless linkup. Best service I've ever had (except for the tree problem) Two week after we got everything up and running, Pac Bell left a flyer on our door saying DSL was now available in our area.
