My 2000 5.4 4x4 screw (81k miles) has had some trouble with the odometer numbers flashing on and off. It wasn't bad when it was only doing it once a month but now it is more often. I would just tap on the gauges when the odometer numbers would go out and it would come right back on. Now today the numbers went out and wouldn't come back on no matter how hard I tapped on it, but when I turned my headlights off the odometer numbers came back on. So I switched my headlights on and off a few times and the odometer number would go out and come back on when the light switch was placed to off. So now the odometer numbers only show when the headlight switch it placed to off. Anyone have this problem or know of a fix for it. Is it a bad switch or is it a bad connection??? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Common problem that can be fixed pretty easily. My '99 has done it for the past 3 years. The odometer display works sometimes, other times it doesnt. Mine has never completely quit displaying, so I never really worried about it.
I had the same problem with my 99 F-150, the repair took two or three hours. You need a good magnifying glass, a pensil solder iron and small hands help when disconnecting the wiring harnesses. I am by no means an expert and this was my first time making a solder connection on an electrical panel board. The blinking does not hurt anything, mine did this for two-years, but it will eventually drive you nuts.
Hey thanks for the help. I will prob try this over the weekend because i am working 12 hour shifts right now. Doesnt seem to hard, just hope it fixes it. Thanks again....Greg
it should fix it. it is always the same pin. see the photos. not difficult just takes a few hours. dont break the transmission gear indicator wire or pointer. it will drive you crazy after a few months of the on-off. i fixed mine 2 years ago and never another problem.
