1984 E150 Mark III wiring

Hi all,

I am new to posting to this forum, but have read all the topics (not the content) looking for an answer, so thought I would try posting.

I recently picked up the '84 E150 MarkIII at what I thought was a good price for its condition and age, 600.00 and fair condition.

Am going about fixing the things that don't work, primarily I am down to installing a non-existant stereo and then running power to the for lack of better words "control box" that is above the drivers head.

The box that is there looks pretty much to be the type of unit that cb's were once installed in, in fact there is a hole and cover for a speaker, but instead of a cb there is a switch/fuse panel for the rear fan/vent, courtesy lights and clock.

Does anyone know of a resource where I can find a wiring diagram? I don't really want to have to dismantle the cab to trace the wires...

I suppose I could run a new hot wire to there, I would like to get it functioning as I will be replacing the vent/fan before it gets too close to summer.

But if I can find out why the existing wiring doesn't function, I think that would be better.

Pickup a Haynes manual, it has helped me with my electrical problems. It has several diagrams. Any auto part store should have it. I own an '84 as well and am having trouble with my stereo, good luck.

Thanks, but I'm not having trouble with the Ford wiring, it is the Mark III customization wiring, that isn't covered in a Haynes or Chiltons.

Maybe I can help you with your stereo problem, just installed a stereo in my van yesterday.

Ok, I misunderstood your post. Mine is Bivouac equipped and doesn't seem to have that bad of wiring. My issue with the stereo is the 4 rear speakers don't work. The front 2 do. I think it because my head unit doesn't have enough power for the rear ones. My brother did all the wiring for it, he's an electrician.

Did he connect the rear speakers? Probably a stupid question.

I had a mark III ran out of time on the fix so I sold it, $650. I was told the conversion electrics are run by that head console and should have a main power into and dist out.

Thanks, but without ripping the inside of the van apart I can't determine which is the source, or where it should lead from.

In two days of working on it I can't seem to locate the feed wire, can't find where the wire was cut...

Mine had a big green wire across the firewall on the engine side that had a large inline fuse

Mine (1982) was tied directly to the positve post of the battery with a 35amp inline fuse. Wire was red. It kept corroding so I re-routed it to the starter solenoid. It could be laying under your battery compartment. Back then they didn't use the same route on each van.

Is your van somewhat as it came from the factory? If so I have a question for you...

I am rebuilding the carb, trying to get a running rich prob solved, discovered that the altitude compensation circuit has been disconnected, and has been for quite some time, where does yours connect to? The line I mean. The isn't a spare vaccum line laying around to connect to the carb fitting.

That may be the entire reason why it isn't running as well as it should.
