My 99 van likes to buck every so often, and today the SES light came on for the first time. I had Advance Auto Parts plug their reader on it and I got the following:
DTC P0340
Camshaft Position
Sensor A - Bank 1
Circuit Malfunction
DTC P1000
OBD Systems
Readiness Test
Not Complete
Any advise on how to go about solving this problem? Should I replace the sensor first? Thanks for any help.
Don't know which engine you have but its a common problem on some Ford cars/trucks to have the trigger break off the senor trigger. If this is the case, the sensor is probably good. Since the code is a circuit fault, it could be either the sensor, the harness or the trigger.
I took the van on a call today and on my way home the SES light went out, would this seem to mean the sensor is bad? I'm off to try and find a manual, thanks for helping.
I have had two Ford V6's do this. Not sure about the 4.2 but the other sixes have the camshaft position sensor mounted on the old distributor drive. If the 4.2 has the same setup I will bet that's the problem. Ford has a special tool necessary to replace the drive as it has to be properly timed.
I decided to replace the sensor, since I had to order a manual and do not know how to test it. Reset the SES light and will try it out tomorrow, I have my doubts. Got a feeling will have to pull the whole thing out, and it appears like a not so fun job.
I have a 01 e150 van with a 4.2 v-6 in our shop now. It has a code p0340 and very poor drivabilty. The dealer has put a camshaft position sensor and computer in it. Customer took it away from them. We have been testing it and have come to a conclusion there is a problem with timing gears or the gear that runs the balance shaft that runs the syncronizer. Does your van run so poor that it will backfire and even stall with or without the light on?
