CB Radio Installation

I'm looking for some advice on places to put my CB in my new truck. It's an '05 CC w/o a sunroof, so it has the plastic roof compartment. I was thinking about putting my CB in there but don't know how tough routing the wiring would be. In my Ranger I have a CB mounted to the right of the steering column and that seemed to work good, but I don't really want to be drilling into the dash. Any advise on where to put it, or where not to put it and maybe some advise on wiring would be great. Not a big deal, but thought someone might have had an experience they could share that would save me some trouble. Thanks

On one of my older trucks, I fabricated a bracket to mount the CB to the front of the seat, facing upward. I found that I really liked this location, the controls were right at my fingertips, without having to reach up to either the dash or the overhead console.

The other thing that was nice was that the wires could be easily routed under the seat, out of sight.

Just don't spill coffee into the faceplate...

I put mine under the dash and made my antenna mount to put the antenna between the cab and the bed.

Have you considered one of the all-in-one Cobra CB's? I really like mine (CB75WX???) and it also has 10 weather channels. Only a small chassis mounted behind the fuse access panel to which you bring concealed power and coax cable, plus radio connector cable.

That's the first I've heard of that one. Looks like a pretty slick setup. How is it for range, receiving and transmitting? I don't really want to sacrifice power for a slick look.

As far as transmitter power goes, all CB's are created equal; they all put out 4 watts AM per FCC regs. Best performance will come from a good antenna tuned properly. I have two Firestik antennas, one 2 foot and one 4 foot. I don't switch them any more when I pull the fifth-wheel because I can't tell any difference. Proper tuning (SWR) is the key. Either go to a CB shop or find a local ham operator to tune it for you.
Good Luck,

Thanks for the info guys, good looking setup HUNTSDUCKS. How tough is it to get the antenna cable through the firewall on these trucks? It was pretty simple on my Ranger. Looks like its going to be tough at first glance inside the engine compartment.

I am having a difficult time figuring out where to mount a CB as well. My biggest thing is keeping everything clean in the cab. I think what I will do is try and make a custom box similar to this and mount everything:

I had the "all in one" Cobra 75WXST in my last truck...yes it was a clean install but I was not impressed with the performance compared to all the other big radios on the road.
