So i went out yesterday and painted my steering stabilers since they had a yellow/white/white over sticker/rust color. I took them off and i was suprised that they do not spring up like like a shock? Are they supposed to act like a shock and have tension on them, or are they supposed to just move back and forth? Also if they are bad, any suggestions on new ones?
From my understanding they are just like a shock and should have some kind of tension behind it. If you push them in and they stay, I would guess they are bad. I have a dual set up from sky jacker and I love them. There are plenty of good ones out there.

They should have tension, but not "spring" out like a shock would. If it constantly tried to push out, your steering would constantly pull in one direction when driving down the highway. To check it, just try to extend and compress it. Should be somewhat difficult.
I run 37" tires and I have always used duals on anything that is 35" and over. IMO it just makes sense and it saves wear and tear on your parts. My Cherokee with a 6" lift and 35's on it has a dual stabilizer on it.
For about $120 SkyJacker makes a nice system. I really noticed a big difference when I went from single stabilizer to dual stabilizer set up and I was running 33" tires. I have 36" tires now and I dont want to think how tough it would be turn this beast with a single stabilizer. I'd say do it, even if you dont go big tires I think you will be pleased with how smooth it turns.
