A couple years ago, a company that advertised in truckin magazine used to sell them. I never checked to see if they were in business anymore, but they used to go for $350-$450 depending on which closing method you wanted. They were fiberglass though.
The company you are looking for is Universal products, the address is www.up22.com. They have both street and race weight hoods in cowl height 4"-8" (I think)
I know someone who just went through the nightmare of dealing with them, you don't want to know the total cost of getting it to fit and the time involved (the first hood arrived in two pieces). Also do a search on the Better Business Bureau under their name.
Guys,
Cowl hoods are not easy to find... Bummer about the UP22 piece as I was planning on trying one... Thanks for the heads up 77460!!! On my original truck (1976) I used the center section from a 1976 Caprice deck lid for a smooth looking cowl hood, all steel .. Worked well, yes, gobs of work yes, looked great, absolutely . If you want I can try to post some pics.
i beleive ivan ribic has one on his truck(captain crunch),also proilator has one too (at least i think so) his truck is all black and has the punisher logo on the doors.they both look really good. may be they will chime in. or look them up on the members list.their trucks look so good,im actually cutting a spare hood up and welding in a cowl style center section in it for one of my trucks this summer.-billy

I had one of Universal's cowl induction hoods for my 79 F350 but was not very impressed with it. It was too wide at the back, sagged in the middle at the firewall, I installed 2 angles on the firewall to eliminate the sag. The hood ended up blowing off, fortunately no one was behind me, just dented the roof of my truck in 3 places. It blew off after I corrected the hood sag. On the stock hood, the spring that pops it up when you open the hood is mounted on the hood, Universal's hood has no provision to mount the spring on their hood, so I mounted the spring on the radiator support, it never worked right. Also, they don't have springs for the 79 hood so you have to use a prop rod. I put my old steel hood back on, it fits right, closes right. . .
It would be best to fab one using 20 ga. steel tig welded to the hood with the welds smoothed and filled. I can build them, no problem. But unless you live close enough to me to come get it, freight is going to be high, over $100.00 I'm sure as it would have to go as truck freight.....
