No need to call names...
No one would know that it's non-functional until the hood is opened. I've been considering adding a scoop too. I like the look of the 69-70 mustang boss/mach1 scoop. A repo or used scoop can be had for around $75 and it just bolts through the hood - or you can even get the stick-on ones.
I'd prefer mine be non-functional because I drive mine year-round in all kinds of snow sleet and rain, so I'd rather not have to deal with all that pouring in on my engine. Plus I already have a dual snorkle ram air setup installed and would rather keep that.
Anyone have pictures of scoops or custom hoods on a 73-79 Ford? I'd like to see some.

I do think they look cool, but I, personally, wouldn't do it just for looks. Unless it had a flip-up top so I could use it as a cooler or for storing my tow strap (I usually have to climb over the hood to hook the strap up anyhow). hehe.
Seriously though, check out US body. They seem to have a lot of stuff like that. Also try ebay.
Hey Marty,
Could you do me a favor and post some pics of the dual snorkel set up? I just bought a DS from a 82 stang and I just want to see some set ups before I do something stupid.
Thanks,
Jeff
Sorry, no pics. I used a old Mopar filter housing (holds a larger filter) and put on 2 Ford snorkles. Then I have flex intake tube going to holes on either side of the radiator. Works great.
Cool. that's about what I was going to do with the flex but I was looking for a certain kind of fittings for a cleaner look when I attach the hoses next to the radiator.
Jeff
I'm looking for a better option too. I first used wire ties to hold the hose to the rad support. But now my pickup is torn down for body work including a new rad support. So I want to find a better looking option, before I reattach it.
So anyone have any pics of hood scoops on 73-79s?
Marty

Thanks guys. They look good, gives it some attitude...
Hillbillyk, your mustang scoop is what I've been considering. did you install it? Does the back of the scoop match the contour of the hood? Does it have a special air box to collect the air from the scoop into the carb?
it was on the truck when I got it, it has a line right down the middle of the top that matches the one on the hood. You have to file the back a little for the little line down the hood. I have 2 holes cut in the hood, no box or anything, just some fresh air under the hood. We put one on a friends truck without cutting a hole, very easy to install.
I got mine off of ebay for like $50 shipped. It matched the contour except in the front it was a little high a rubber mallet and five minutes later I drilled and used a 360 degree pivot style rivet gun.The $25 rivet gun made the difference.Total time 45 minutes.I didnt cut the hood yet because of winter we had 61 inches alone just in January.Plus I have two more hoods for differnt looks for different moods.
