more computer help needed, drivers?
after installing everything and the drivers disk also, i started to setup my internet again.
well, i can't get anything to work. i can't find anything to do with my wireless and plugging into my modem doesn't work either.
i tried everything, it doesn't even recognize there is a wirless card nor when i connect my ether net cable it doesn't do anything also.
i know how to set up an internet connection, i have the same settings in my other laptops and they work find.
it seems to be missing the driver or something? but i used the install disk that came with the computer. is it possible the idiots didn't give me drivers for everything?
under harware manager it lists that my ether net doesn't have a driver along with my network adapter. is this the problem? and where do i get the drivers from if i can't connect the comp to the internet?
and also, i would think at least the ether net connection would work, but the comp won't get online at all or even offer under network connections the LAN connection to enable or disable.
i am about to get mad and order a new comp!

Also another think to try is manually select the driver from a disk you have..
Sometimes the automatic search doesn't find it because it is down a few levels..
Put the disk in that you think has the driver then look at it through Windows Explorer. Usuall network cards are 3com, linksys, netgear, intel, broadcom, and dlink to name a few.
If you can't find it it would be cheaper to get a new network adapter ($30) than get a new PC.
It takes a bit of detective work, but you'll eventually find what you're looking for.
under device manager, it lists as other devices 2 things, ethernet controller and network controller. both of these have a question mark beside it.
the wireless is built in, i don't see where to remove anything.
also, it says it loaded a broadcom 56k modem. phone line? i use the dsl thing, but even with the ethernet cable plugged in, still a no go.
i even doubled checked the setting on the other laptops and all is the same.
under network settings, it just lists a 1394 connection, no wireless or high speed LAN connection, which is what i need.
what to do?
i looked for a driver manually, but didn't find.
it would be nice if dell gave all the stuff i needed on the install disk, but i guess it was to much trouble for them to.

Goto www.support.dell.com
Enter the service tag and then select drivers.
It will list everything you need for drivers, but there will be others that you do not need.
You can download all of them and install one at a time.
Don't you have a dell Device driver disk? It is usually blue...
Run the drivers disk and it will put a check mark next to the device you have installed.
NOTE: some devices need to be installed using the setup***** program.. They will not install by using the update driver option in device manager.
This is probably where your problem lies..
