My good lap top was recently stolen and I am trying to revive a old
gateway laptop with a bad cd drive. I want to buy a external drive to use but the install disk is a cd . What would be the best way to transfer the drivers to the laptop?
I was thinking I would use my home computer to copy the important drivers to a floppy. Could this work?
that could work, depending on the size of the files, you could also connect the laptop to the internet and download the files you need from the manufacturer. if you need any more help just let me know
The laptop is running 98se. It is an old 333mhz with 64 ram so I don't think it will handle XP. The problem is I need to install the router and wireless network card. I can not get on to the internet untill the cd drive is installed. Its a pandoras box of problems.
Sorry to hear about the laptop christaylor, I know exactly how you feel. I had a laptop stolen from me about a year ago. Really hurt, especially when all my work was gone.
Anyways, if you have a USB port, you could copy the file to a USB thumb drive, and then load them to the machine that way. Yet another option is to get a cross-over cable connect them machine directly to another machine (such as a desktop at work), and copy the files over via peer-to-peer networking.
Is Windows 98 bootable, I thought only 2000 and higher was CD Bootable? I might be wrong on that though.
The cd drive does not read on the laptop. the problem is I am getting a external cd drive but the drivers are on a cd so I need to figure out how to get the drivers to my laptop to read the new cd rom. I think I will try to down load them ot work to a 3.5 floppy and then use that to transfer it to the laptop. I am saving to get a new laptop but $1500 is hard to come by.
On a side note my insurance co. told me that if I claim the loss I will probably be cannceled or my rates will go sky high .
Not really, my insurance company told me they wouldn't cover it, plain and simple. I said but it was in the car, and they said nope. The SOBs stole my car, and got a set of rims, stereo, laptop, headlights, and my bro-in-laws entire car too. They hit us both at the same time.
About a month ago, my car was stolen again while my lil bro was driving it, and same insurance company said they wouldn't cover it. I'm like why not, they said you weren't driving. I asked why the heck I was paying for full coverage when I couldn't use it, and they said sorry. Talked to a lawyer, and lawyers in my area didn't want to take on a big company like M$%&*@#. So I ended up losing out in the end.
