Exclamation Major Problems with my 7.3l

OK, this is my first post. Anyway, I bought a 2000 F-250 4x4 with 39k on it last year. I chipped it and put 4' SS exhaust, got gauges, K&N Air Filter. Well 2 weeks ago I was driving along and it started to sputter and lose power, I let of the accelorator and it went back to idling fine. I got back in the pedal and it started doing it again and the it died out and left me on the side of the road. Well I looked under the hood and oil was all over the top of the engine. So I got it towed to my house and let it sit for a week b/c I couldn't work on it due to my job in the military. I started to think it was the high pressure oil pump seal or the pump itself. I pulled everthing out and found a blown out o-ring on the plug that goes into the HPOP where the braided lines run out to the heads. I replaced the o-ring and put everthing back together. I filled it with oil and tried to start it. No luck. I talked to a friend who works on these alot and he said to keep turning it over that I got air in my HP oil side and that it would take awhile to run it out. I hooked a battery charger up and began cranking the fire out of it. I called him back and he said use alittle ether in the intake. I ran it and it would sputter alitttle (better than before), but blew out white smoke for a second then black smoke. I had ran the battery down so I waited to charge again and tried again. Now I can't get it to do hardly anything. I really need some help guys. Thanks

Zach

It turns over really well until i drained the batteries. Not even a lick of fire, like it's getting no fuel. Like I said the guy told me I had air in the High pressure oil system and it would take awhile to get it out, but I've been going at it since last night, alittle this afternoon, and alittle tonight. as much as I can get the batteries to put out. Right now they are about dead. So I must wait on the charger to put them back up to par. Anyway I read in my manufactures book and I just seen where it says not to use starting fluid. I didn't use the starting fluid till this afternoon though. All I know is it's not leaking oil anymore and it acts like the fuel ain't getting to the cylinders.

To be completely honest, this is the first time I've had to work on this thing, I bought a haynes manual and followed it to a T. I really have no clue if I might have missed something or what. I really don't want to tear into this thing again and pull the turbo off. Could this be a fried turbo. I did lose 2 1/2 gallons of oil through that o-ring busting. I also thought about pulling the gear cover back off and checking the pump drive gear. Any thoughts?

Yeah, never use ether in a diesel. Since you used it today, what happened?

Well it still doesn't start, but it tried to start. I had some blow back through the air intake but it seemed to help the engine almost get started. Could that ether bust anything in there?

Turbo lube oil is fed through a separate oil galley. Did you clean all of the connectors good to get that oil residue off and out of them, Also while wrenching on the HPOP line could you have knocked the IPR nut loose?

Oh yeah. Where are you spraying it in? BTW, don't use any more ether, we'll address that in a minute.

Ether + glow plugs = boom

WD40 is a safer starter

Ether: straight in the intake pipe that goes to the turbo.

IPR?

I took a electrical connector cleaner to all of the connections and degreased the engine

If your glowplugs are operating and it is cold enough for them to activate you could cause SEVERE DAMAGE to your engine if you feel you need to use ether disconect the power to the gpr.
