It is quite distinct (the lockup) in our trucks. It won't usually lock in 1st & 2nd or at least to the point where you can tell. But you can definantly hear it between third and OD. It is that "half shift" you hear/feel after you shift into third.

I have the 4R100 in my 2000 F350 diesel and I destroyed it with a mild edge programmer. The 4R100 can handle up to 1000 horsepower is what I was told by a Ford FACT instructor who drives an F450. You might want to have it rebuilt with steel gears in it. The aluminum gears will not handle the extra power.

A stock 4R100 will not come close to living with 1,000 horsepower.

No transmission has ever been built with aluminum gears. Aluminum gears wouldn't last long enough to drive the truck out of the factory.

The E4OD had an aluminum gear carrier that was later replaced with steel. The 4R100 always had steel carriers. The carrier is the part that holds the planet gears in place.

Heh, good job searching Smurff, but this thread is over 4 years old. Kind of irrelevant to bring up a thread like this without a real purpose or without adding correct info to it.

Also, without any other info, it's pretty safe to say your Edge programmer didn't destroy your trans because of the horsepower it unlocked. Not by a long shot.

If you really wanna unleash the power safely, give Jody at DP-Tuner a call for some custom programming.

I called sinister diesel awhile ago and asked them for some info on the DP tuner and they weren't really helpful at all.

Yeah they told me to look it up on the computer, but the questions I had weren't something that I could find answers too online.

Send Jody an email, or call and talk to James (I think that's his name) and you'll get your answers.

Jody is really good people and can safely bring out a lot of the power that Ford left on the table when they created the programming tunes.
