I'm back! alive and well! Truck will be fixed this weekend, part 1. New power steering pump and gear box going in and a 6.0l tranny cooler. Part 2 is towards the end of Sept. New torque converter, rear main seal and simply a new o-ring for the tranny dip stick. The real reason why the tranny was getting hot, besides hauling a camper and towing a boat around the state, was the torque converter being a 2 stage and starting to slip. The torque converter has only been in there for about 9 months. So, I will upgrade to the 3 stage Allison make( yes, Allison) still Ford made, to keep from slipping and to keep cool. Bent fins in my radiator, tranny cooler and inter coolers would have had no effect in the temps I was getting with full load heading up and down the hills. Bent or not, it would have been the same according to my diesel tech. Anyway, its time to get this site up and moving again. Idaho is gaining, I think. For those who know my oldest, he starts kindergarden Sept. 5. Seems like yesterday he was born.

Bent fins like I saw on your truck allowed no air through. No air allowed past the cooling tubes means no cooling. Overheat. You said it had been overheating like that a long time, the damage was done. You spent an hour in the driveway trying to straighten the rad fins out to allow air through again.
Another new torque converter after 9 months.
Rear main seal.
A new tranny cooler.
Those were defective or overheated and got defective. I've pulled heavier loads longer distances (Florida>here thru the Rockies, South Oregon>here and back several times thru the Siskiyus, 17,000-22,500 scale weight i offered to show you the ticket) than the weight of your camper and boat, in my 400M and 460EFI, no overheat probs until the old radiator sprung a leak. Kept my fins straight no matter how much brush or whatever had flattened them.
A mech has made a lot of money off that truck, and obviously knows more than the engineers at the factory about engine/tranny cooling. He can show them how no air flow thru a rad won't cause overheating. Heck just get rid of the radiators who needs 'em.

Just a heads up. Wife will be home on the 25th late night Ferry. So after Saturday morning. I may not be allowed in the house or on the computer. Got a cabin just down the road I can stay in for a while. Will try and get a phone put in and see if I can afford Dial up. Prolly be more dependable than Starband but spendy I bet. I'll call AP&T today and get a quote. It's been fun Friends. And ya all need to know that with out yer help and Friendship I would not have made it this far.
You bought the house, paid for the land and bought the construction materials right (?). She wants to split. Why is it again that you are leaving and she's staying? Hit the road girl, I'm keeping the kids and you are outta' here. Of does Alaska have laws like half the other states "the wife is always right", no matter what has happened,
I'll check if the conversation is going on in another thread...
,
FTE connection access is on and off again this morning, another forum and websites working so it ain't here.
No Rex this is the thread for now. I just don't want to fight. And am hoping if I give her some time we can work it out. No talk of Divorce yet.
And yes the Alaska law and Courts will generally rule in favor of whom they think is best for the kids.
In my last divorce I got custody of my 6 week old girl. And raised her for about two years before marrying Deana. I love this Woman and hope to work it out. She will be home Saturday and we will talk and see.
Thanks Tricky

Thanks for being a certified mech. who knows quite a bit about my truck!
I do believe this is the general chatter forum for WA State, which this is where I am a member of and live. Get off the island and see what is around, you might be surprised! The mechanics I use work on my truck for free, they do work for Ford and are Certified, they also work on these trucks everyday, I get my parts at cost. Maybe if you listened to what being said to you instead of going off in a tangent you just might understand. Maybe if you knew the truck better, you would see why there are changes.
Rex or Placermike, can you keep us updated on how we can contact Tricky in the meentime? im sure he would appreciate hearing from all of us now and then
Yes, he's posted this publicly so he won't mind it posted again. His phone is 907-846-5214, but he is staying at another place for a while that i don't know the phone nr to...so the best way now is by PMs when he gets online. If anyone has newer info, pls pass it along...
lostmybeer, I give a rip how many transmissions you go through or thousand$ you put in that truck for replacements. But any time you post that "bent" fins (i saw them, they were mashed flat and allowed little air through) don't cause overheating here, I'll call your bluff. You complained for hours about it overheating for a long time and not knowing why. Now its "fix the tranny" time again. And a new cooler.
