from what i've read, since i have 2 keys, i can program the third myself. if i just get the blank key off ebay, will anyone cut it (ie. hardware store) or will i have to take it to the dealer. if i have to take it in, are they going to complain about the key and want to charge me and arm and a leg to cut it?
side note: my friend, we'll call him Tim, has a key tied to his frame. does anyone else do this or think he would be foolish keeping one there?
edit: looking on eBay, do I need to specifically listed for an 02 ranger, or will any ford key do? 95 mustang, etc?
Any hardware store can cut the key for you, and shouldn't charge much at all. I'd probably go to a local place where things aren't as tightly controlled as Home Depot (it might get complicated if they aren't set up with a SKU for cutting your own key, and you sure can't count on the employees to figure anything out on their own ).
As for your "friend" "Tim", I'd advise him to tell his friend Tom to stop posting stuff like that on the internet...
[If you have the two original keys it's easy to do I bought my third key from the dealer they cut it total cost was around, $25 then I programed it by the owners manual. I also have a key hidden under my truck for emergency it's wrapped in plastic and well hidden held on by a tie wrap and duct tape my brother could not find it.QUOTE=tomtoc]looking for an extra key for my 02 ranger

Tom thought it would be OK to post, knowing that he's posting stuff about Tim's truck to a bunch of trustworthy people and that no one really knows who Tim is.
