Hello.
Has anyone had problems with the 4.0 misfiring on the number 4 cylinder? Here is the situation, my factory set of plugs went out at 50,000 miles. It started with the no. 4 cylinder not firing. So I replaced them with Bosch Platinum (big mistake) they were fried 30,000 miles later the electrode was completely gone. I replaced them with Motorcraft plugs from the Ford dealer. Today my no. 4 cylinder was misfiring again, the plugs only have about 7,000 miles on them. Here are my truck spec: 1998 Ranger 4x4 Supercab w/ 89,853 miles, 4.0 V6, Kurtzs Kustoms intake, BBK throttle body, JBA Ti Ceramic coated headers, JBA SS cat back exhaust, and a monster audio system. Other than that the truck is stock. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Well something is definately not right, what do the plugs look like when you pull them? Especially your #4 plug. You're going to get a lot of mixed opinions on what plugs to use, here on the forum. Those mods might have something to do with your problem, Mods are great but sometimes it doesn't take much to cause a re-occuring problem. Test your wires with a meter to see if they need to be changed, seeing that your problem always occurs on #4. Maybe your intake isn't torqued/sealed down right causing a lean situation on #4. Anything is possible.
The past two sets of plugs that I have pulled have looked like crap. I didn't have these mads when the stock set went out. When I replaced them all of them looked kind of rough. The last set of Bosch that I took out all of them had a dry, brown rust colored deposit on them. The electrod and the curved piece (I can't remember what it's called) that it arcs to are both erroded away. The number 4 plug looks no different from the rest. The Motorcraft plug that I just removed just has a tan color to it nothing looks wore. Thanks
