programming remote start fob

I have looked all over and I can't seem to find what Im looking for. I have 2 fully functioning keys but I am looking at trying to program a miscut key I got for my truck just for the fob. What Id like to do is basically leave my key in the ignition and have a FOB with the actual key cut off so it is only the head containing the fob. I can remote start the truck, unlock the doors and then get in a use the key in the ignition as normal. I just hate the hugs key on my key ring.

Is there a way to program the key fob, not the PATS key. Its miscut so thats not an option.

Thanks!

I think you have to turn the key to program it (step 5). from the owners manual, Programming spare keys, page 150 of the 2011 f250 manual

If two previously programmed coded keys are not available, you must
bring your vehicle to your authorized dealer to have the spare coded
key(s) programmed.

Please read and understand the entire procedure before you begin.

1. Insert the first previously programmed coded key into the
ignition and turn the ignition from the 1 (off) position to the 3 (on)
position (maintain ignition in the 3(on) position for at least one
second, but no more than10 seconds).

2. Turn ignition from the 3 (on) position back to the 1 (off) position
in order to remove the first coded keyfrom the ignition.

3. After three seconds but within 10 seconds of removing the first
coded key, insert the second previously programmed coded key
into the ignition and turn the ignition from the 1 (off) position to the 3 (on)
position (maintain ignition in the 3 (on) position for at least one second
but no more than 10 seconds).

4. Turn the ignition from the 3 (on) position back to the 1 (off) position
in order to remove the second coded key from the ignition.

5. After three seconds but within 10 seconds of removing the second
coded key, insert the new unprogrammed key (new key/valet key) into
the ignition and turn the ignition from the 1 (off) position to the 3 (on)
position (maintain ignition in the 3 (on) position for at least one second,
but no more than 10 seconds). This step will program your new key to a
coded key

Sam,

Im not sure but I think thats just for the PATS security part of the key. Not the remote functions. Somewhere Ive seen someone was able to do what Im looking for. I just can't figure out how to do it. lol

Well crap. Obviously this won't work then since the key was miscut and won't turn in my ignition.

Give this a shot.

1) Get in the truck
2) Put a key in the ignition
3) Unlock the doors using the switch on the door.
4) Open the drivers door.
5) Quickly cycle the from off to on (not start) 8 times ending up in the on position.
6) You will hear the locks activate two times with a pause in between.
7) Within 10 seconds of the locks cycling, press a button on all three remotes.
8) After 20 seconds the doors will lock then unlock to confirm the programing mode has been exited.
9) Turn the ignition off, pull your key out then try all three fobs.

Your on to something. I can get it to enter programming mode, I push the buttons on all 3 keys and the horn hone when I do but when it exits programming mode the only keys that work are the original ones. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Are you just pushing A button on all three remotes or are you pushing all the buttons on all three remotes ?

I tried pushing just 1 button. I tried pushing multiple buttons. All ends up with same thing. Original keys work, the 3rd doesn't.

Ok, try it again, but this time only push a button on the fob you're wanting programed, don't push a button on your other two keys.

No, you only need to push A button, not all of them. Here what the wording says I posted earlier.
7) Within 10 seconds of the locks cycling, press a button on all three remotes.

Yes, its a brand new key. My mom works at the dealer and they key was miscut so I gory it to try and use it as a fob only. Not a key.
