Need help decoding a door tag
Hi - could use the help of some of the resident experts here. Recently purchased a '73 F350. It's currently being stored offsite, but I asked the storage guy to write down the numbers on the door tag so I have a better idea what I bought. Now I need help decoding them! Here's the numbers, in the order they appear on the tag:
1A0 R8 F353 C34 G 27 72
Any decoding experts able to help? Thanks in advance!

R8 - Exterior colours
R- Sequoia Brown
8- Tampico Yellow
F353 - GVWR body code - 8300 lbs
C34 Body Trim codes
C - Broadcloth & Vinyl bench
3 - Colour -
4- Styleside box
G - Transmission - automatic = C6
Axle 24 - Dana 60 5300 lbs 4.10:1

Brilliant! Thanks very much. Looks like the first code is "140", not "1A0", meaning its the 140" wheelbase.
Anything in the code indicate a rare vehicle, or rare options?
Thanks again for your help.

Maybe another code was written down wrong. It's a 390 2V, so I'm thinking it has to be a C6.

Nope...it's a C6...F350's came with either a C6, NP 435 or a Warner 4 Speed.
G = 3 Speed Automatic = C-6 (From trans application code Section 70A)
72 = Ordered from San Jose, CA. District Sales Office

Interestingly, it still sports the original paint!

Dennis, In parts catalog VIN section (fiche mailed, btw), the trans code G only decodes as: 3 Speed Automatic. One has to go to trans application section 70A for further information.

That's correct.
The big thing back then was the "rule of thumb" scenario ...engine vs trans that got mated.
The put C4's behind a lot of engines it seemed.
