I doubt any intake will increase your gas milage and most of these guys have other mods so they might not beable to tell you if that filter gives you better milage or not.

Edit: I take that back..If you have better luck than me you might get a milage increase but not much more than 1 or 2 mpg.

I did the 6637 filter upgrade without any other mods at the time and noticed no significant change in mileage. What I did notice is that my intake pipe has never been dirty again.

I dont know why ..but why do all you guys seem to be checking your intake tubes to make sure there clean? I dont think anyone out there is gonna buy a filter cause it keeps there intake tube clean. Yeah its a sign of how well the filter is filtering but still you shouldnt have to remove your filter every weekend to look at your intake tube .

I only check mine when I swap out the filter for a new one. And yes it's very important to see if dirt is getting into the intake tube. These engine suck in large quantities of air, and it doesn't take long to destroy the turbo or dust the engine because of a faulty filter.

If I still lived in Pheonix AZ I would always check to see if my filter was getting everything but now I am in Montana and Blowing dust and sand are out of the picture. AZ is horrible, I mean the dust storms are terrible. I was at luke AFB and living in the dorms, The day I got my filter/CAI kit I go to install it and it was a pain to install ofcoarse. Needles to say it took way to long to install it, and not to mention once I pulled the factory system off my F150 a dust storm blew in and I had to stuff every damn intake hole with a t-Shirt to keep the dust out. Talk about dust, I had about a handfull of dust I had to clean out of the new intake tube before I could put in in the truck. I dont miss those days, But yeah if you live in a dusty place then its very important to check to make sure your filter is doing its job.

With the 6627 mod you are going to hear things that you might have never heard before. You can hear the turbo spool up and you will hear as PSSSS sound when you let up on her or sometimes when it changes gears. i was assured by other members that this is perfectly normal. It is air being expelled back out of the turbo inlet that is not needed.

Yeah I noticed the same Psss sound with my Volant intake and also the turbo spooling up. Other than getting a performance gain, you also get the sounds whitch I think make the truck sound awsome.

I just install the 6637 tonight and was amazed that the intake tube was dirty. I mean it terrible considering I have 145000 miles on my pickup, but I dont think it should have been clean! I can see how in heavy dust enviroment these things get dusted.

One of the things you can do to extend the life on the 6637 is to install what some folks call the "pop" cover, which is a prefilter "sack" that keeps out large stuff. I made my own version of it with a customized graphic just because I could nad it was fun. Looks pretty good to. My finished product is below, and my own steps of doing the entire mod is in my gallery.

That cover looks great! I looked at your install pics. I am concerned about the filter coming off like yours did. How is your 4" pipe attached to the filter?

Thanks!

The pipe going into the filter opening is simply a "shove tight" fit. I filed the edges of the exhaust pipe with a minimal taper to keep burrs from making it difficult. The fit is so snug that I know for a fact taht it can't come out. The geometry under teh hood just doesn't allow for any movement at all. On the end that goes into the OEM flex tube, I had to trim a small piece of extruding rubber ridge that fits through a slot in the OEM band clamp, and then tightened the clamp down on the exhaust pipe transition. I've checked since then... NO movement at all!!

I want to replace the flex tube with a piece of 4" exhaust that has a 45° bend with silicone boots so I can get a smoother airflow into the turbo, but haven't put the pieces together yet for the install. You can buy a kit to do the whole job with, but I think it's more fun to make it yourself.

Thanks for the info. I'll grab a piece of pipe tomorrow and add it to the filter. I was already nervous about the filter coming off. seeing your pics confirmed my concerns.

As far as the tube to the turbo, maybe a truck shop could help. basically a guy just need to find someone with a 4" tubing bender from what I can tell. Is it a straight shot or does it need to be bent both directions? I havent really looked at it hard yet, but now you got me thinking about it.

The configuration may be a little different on the different engine models. I'm told that for my '02, I only need it bent in one direction. In fact, that's pretty much what I've seen pictured in the kits you can buy. I've already found a BIG truck shop )International dealer) her ein Birmingham, so I know I can ge the pipe and boots, just haven't had the time to do it lately. I'm targeting within a month for install, but I'm also wanting to go ahead and do the Hutch and Harpoon mods, too, which will probably end up taking a higher priority.

That's interesting. You are the only person I have heard of that the intake hose came off the filter. I have run the setup without an additional piece of pipe for over a year. I will be checking often as I just put a new one on yesterday. Any ideas as to why yours came loose? Did you leave the bottom part of you factory filter box?
