I didnt do this filter mod, but I do have a Volant intake and they just put a hole and a gromet so you can secure the filterminder assembly on the filter box. The filterminder basically become useless, its not gonna tell me if my filter is clogged with dust but it might tell me if both the fender intake and the ramair intake get clogged with debri or some junk. I would have chucked that filterminder but I thought it looked cool attached to my intake box :-)

Can you do a mod like this on the newer 6.0's? Also I am wondering if the new 6.4's are gonna have any options for intake mods? I have already seen cat/filter back exhaust kits for the 6.4's so I guess intake kits/mod are coming soon.

Doesnt your filter minder have an electrical plug/wires? Mine did so when you are driving and your filter gets clogged it trips a senor in the minder and then trips a light on the dash.

The only wires that go to filter box is on the side. It is the Air Intake Temp Sensor.

The filter minder is the little spring loaded device that senses increased vacuum in the filter box. It has green, yellow and red marks on it. It has a reset button on it. The Air Intake Sensor has the wires and senses air temps entering the intake and if it is cold enough, energizes the AIH (Air Intake Heater), if you still have one.

The sensor should be on the side of the box towards the cab. Not on the top cover.

Newer trucks (since 02 i think) have a check filter light on the dash and the filter minder does have a two wire connector going to it on these.

Now that I didn't know. Do they still have the air intake sensor? I helped several friends do the 6637 mod and never ran across that. I guess all were pre 02s.

The IAT is still in the bottom of the airbox. All the filterminder does is complete the ground for the dash light on the newer trucks.

I have an 02 that didnt have any wires to the minder. I know there is an idiot light for the filter, but it must get the info somewhere else.

Edit: It take it back, I just went out and looked - there is a plug on the minder, but mine must have been unplugged. I found the wire sitting down below.

From the manual it starts listing the check filter indicator in 2002, they may have been a mid year insertion though -

Check Air Filter Indicator

The check air filter indicator is hardwired to the air filter indicator switch (located in the air filter housing) and monitors the air flow through the air cleaner. The air filter indicator is powered by the instrument cluster and when air flow is low, the air filter indicator switch provides a ground to the instrument cluster illuminating the check air filter indicator.

That would explain why it was unplugged and I had no knowledge of it. Thanks for that information.
